A word in your ear, Lord Smith?

A word in your ear, Lord Smith?
Lord Peter Smith

If you’ve got something to share with the Leader of Wigan Council, now is the time to do it.

Next week, the leader of the council, Lord Peter Smith, is holding a public meeting ‘Leader Listens’ aimed at giving local people a chance to meet the man in charge.

Do you have a burning question about the impact of national cutbacks on local services? Or an idea which offers greater value for money to local taxpayers?

Maybe you’re keen to share your recent experience of a service? Or perhaps you want to use the opportunity as a way to help shape the future of council services?

Then this is your chance to put your question or views to the Leader on anything from traffic management to employment, from volunteering to school meals.

The new style meeting, ‘Leader Listens’ session is scheduled to take place between 4pm and 6pm on Wednesday 22nd August, at Wigan Town Hall.

Lord Smith says: “I am looking forward to this new approach to meeting people from right across the borough. I hope these sessions give people a sense of how they can influence the way in which local services are delivered.

“It will provide me with the opportunity to listen to and respond to people’s concerns, ideas or issues on a one-to-one basis. Hearing the views of local residents, from their unique perspective, will inform policy and feed into the decision-making process.”

The event is a drop-in session so there is no need to make an appointment although it will operate strictly on a first come, first served basis.

Donna Hall, Wigan Council Chief Executive said: “The Leader is keen to keep direct access and close links with all our communities right across Wigan Borough. He is launching this new style meeting to provide an opportunity for local residents to tell him their views first hand. I think this is an ideal way for the public to meet the Leader of the council and chat about the issues that concern them most. Based on feedback and how well this first event is attended, Lord Smith may host more events like this in the future.”
