"Whoever is responsible left him injured, unconscious and lying half in the road on Frog Lane.
"I do not want the public to jump to conclusions now that two men are in custody. Despite this development I still want to hear from members of the public and those who have information that will be vital to this investigation.
"I want to hear from anyone who may think they know who is responsible for this murder and I would like to reassure them that they can speak to me in the strictest of confidence.
"We would also like to hear from anyone who was in a vehicle or walking along Frog Lane between 4am and 4.15am, Sunday morning 17 June.
"It is very important that you contact the incident room as you may well have seen something crucial to the investigation and may not realise the importance of what you saw."
