The event, organised by Wigan Town Centre Management The Galleries and Grand Arcade, was packed full of festive, free family entertainment, launched late night shopping in the town.

The evening included a performance by X Factor 2011 finalists The Risk who wowed the audience with their singing! Other performances included singing by Olly Jacob, Wiganís very own Scott Chapman and Kerry Casey along with local band Rescue the Eskimo!

Hacker T Dog from BBC Children's TV show Hacker Time made a special appearance and amazed the younger audience. Pantomime stars appearing in Sinderfella at the Dancehouse Theatre in Manchester also got the crowds interacting with them. Wigan Warriors Players Epalahame Lauaki and Jeff Lima along with the Warriors Girls and Club Mascot Max also appeared on stage.

A guest appearance from Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez along with FLD Street Dance crew Mafia performed with Team Latics, the Wigan Athletic young supporters club who got the crowd dancing and in the festive spirit.

The event was hosted by local Big Brother celebrity Luke Marsden, along with radio DJ Danny Bee who gave away competition prizes worth over £600 to the crowds. The prizes included 2 x pairs of Latics tickets for Saturdayís game against Blackburn.

All the guest stars and performers joined together on stage at 7pm when Wiganís Christmas Lights lit up the town!

Richard Paxton, Centre Director of The Galleries commented:
ďThe 2011 Wigan Town Centre Christmas Light Switch-on was fantastic, it was amazing to see the huge crowds of people in Market Place. The live performances were superb and kept the crowds entertained. We are excited and are now looking forward to the Santa and Reindeer parade on Sunday which leaves Mesnes Park at 1pm.Ē
