|Looking for the right trader? The answer’s in the stars!
Good Trader Scheme co-ordinator Helené Mason is urging residents to use the scheme.
It's possibly the worst time of the year to get a leak in the roof.
If you do need repair work around your home, you’ll probably need to call in a professional.
The sheer choice of local traders can be baffling. You want to ensure repairs are up to standard. You don’t want to have to call for more repair work in a few months’ time. So, what to do?
Well, if it's a good trader you're looking for, then look no further than the gold stars!
Wigan Council's The Good Trader Scheme is a directory of approved businesses. Customers award the scheme’s members star ratings of up to five gold stars. The more satisfied the customer, the better the business rating. Ratings are given based on workmanship and customer service. Home owners have peace of mind that the trader they use from this directory must adhere to terms and conditions of the scheme.
While the council cannot approve the businesses listed or provide a guarantee of quality, Trading Standards will investigate traders with poor ratings and will take action where appropriate.
Wigan Council's Chief Trading Standards Officer Julie Middlehurst said: “When hiring a trader, the choice can be overwhelming. To help make the decision easier look out for the Good Trader Scheme.”
“All traders that bear the Good Trader Scheme mark have joined on a voluntary basis and have met the criteria set by Trading Standards for the quality of their workmanship and customer service.”
