You are cordially invited... To the Borough’s Biggest Royal Wedding Party!
Wednesday 20th April, 2011

Mark your calendars, unfurl your union flag and dust off your big hat because the big day is drawing near!

There will be a country-wide party atmosphere on Friday 29 April when the nation settles down for the wedding of the decade.

Wigan Borough is marking the occasion of the marriage of His Royal Highness Prince William and Kate Middleton, with a series of street parties across the borough.

But if there isn’t one in your street, don’t worry because the biggest by far will be in Wigan Town Centre…and everyone is invited.

You may not see the Prince and his blushing bride in the flesh but thanks to a 12-metre TV screen in Market Place you can certainly get close up to all the action.

There will be a real party atmosphere from 9.30am onwards on the big day, with a host of free activities to get everyone in the right royal celebratory mood.

Activities include:
  • face painting
  • balloon modelling
  • A magic show
  • A mini disco

Tables and chairs will be provided for those wanting to sit and watch the big event and there will be a gazebo on hand, just in case it rains.

Wigan Council’s Head of Economic Development, Susan Gambles says: “This really is a momentous occasion. We think it’s going to be a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate so we are making sure that people coming in to the town centre get that chance. Wigan town centre is a great place to shop and a great place to enjoy yourself, so it’s the ideal location.

“It promises to be a fun event for the whole family, if you want to make a day of it then bring a picnic and come along to Wigan Town Centre and make the most of it.”

The Royal Wedding Party in Wigan Town Centre will being at 9.30am on Friday April 29 when coverage begins. The free activities begin at 11am and continue until 3pm.
