|Car stolen and crashed into tree
Police are hunting thieves who stole a BMW from outside a Wigan house before crashing it onto a tree.
Between 10pm on Monday 4 April and 12.40am on Tuesday, 5 April 2011, burglars used a bolt-cutter to force open the back door of a house on St Patrick's Way, Scholes.
They stole a set of car keys and a bottle of whisky before leaving and breaking into an out house. They didn't steal anything and left the premises.
The offender then stole a green BMW 330 parked outside. The car was later recovered after it crashed into a tree and railings on Warrington Road, Ince.
A man was seen to run from the scene of the collision towards Banner Street. He was described as white, in his mid 20's, about 5ft 8in tall with shaven dark brown hair and wearing a dark tracksuit top.
PC Kat Allen, of the Wigan Priority Crime Team, said: "As upsetting as this is for the owner, this incident could have been even more serious.
"The offender crashed the stolen car into a tree so clearly had little control of the vehicle.
"I now want to hear from anyone who saw a man fitting the description either milling around St Patricks Way or running from Warrington Road.
"Your call could help put a reckless criminal behind bars."
