Top council chefs are coming to a market near you!
Two of the borough’s leading Uber-Cooks will be showing off their culinary skills and giving timely advice on making tasty dishes in cost effective ways.
Coming to Wigan Market on Friday 22 October, from 11am – 3pm, is executive chef Mark Holmes of MetroFresh, the council’s catering experts. He is currently the king of the kitchen at the brand new state of-the-art Abraham Guest High School in Orrell, but his previous engagements have seen him cooking for Tony Blair and Madonna.
“Providing anyone - whether it’s kids in school or celebrities - with high quality food is a science,” says Mark. “And with people rightly concerned about household budgets, there are ways to offer really first rate food even from the leftovers you may just want to throw away.”
Mark’s kitchen will be open to all on Friday, and there will be a chance to ask questions and learn more about economical cooking during the session.
Leigh Market will be the place to be on Monday 25 from 11am-3pm to meet the council’s very own culinary queen, Glynis Harrison. She’s MetroFresh’s events manager at venues such as the town hall, where she is on hand at Civic Receptions, gatherings and wedding receptions. She’s cooked for royalty (and Ken Dodd too), but she’s most at home in the kitchen where she has helped MetroFresh transform both the school dinner menu and the offerings for customers of the town hall bistro into healthy and stylist dishes.
Glynis says: “We’re bringing quality and affordable cooking straight to you. I have to manage big events and big budgets, but I also know all about careful catering at home. Come along for some fun advice and tasty tips!”.
