Women wanted following shop theft
Wednesday 8th September, 2010

Police are warning shopkeepers to be on their guard after fraudsters stole cash in Wigan.

At about 5.30pm on 27 August 2010, two women went into The Outdoor store in Scholes Precinct. The pair asked for 200 in 10 notes to be changed to 20 notes. They then asked for it to be changed back.

After they had left the shopkeeper realised they had stolen 100.

A CCTV image of the woman has been released.

Both are described as being Eastern European and about 5ft 7in tall. One is described as being about 50 years old and of heavy build and the other had a medium build and was in her mid 20s.

Police Constable Stuart Woodhead, based at Wigan police station, said: "These women are clearly experienced fraudsters and I am certain this won't be the first or last time they try this con.

"I would urge shopkeepers to be wary of the scam and if anyone recognises the women in the CCTV please call police."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 7129, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
