Tuesday 31st August, 2010

A 16-year-old boy was knocked unconscious during an unprovoked attack in a Wigan park.

The boy was with two girls, lying on grass in Mesnes Park, when three men walked over and one of them kicked him in the face.

He was knocked out for a short time and was treated for minor facial injuries.

The attack happened at around 4.15pm on Wednesday 25 August 2010, and police are appealing for witnesses.

The offender is described as white, aged in his early 20's and around 6ft tall. He had a skinny build, short brown hair and was wearing a black shirt with tracksuit pants and spoke with a wigan accent.

One of the other men is described as white, aged 19-20 years, 5ft 8in to 5ft 10in tall, with a muscly build. He had a bald head and was wearing a blue and white checked top, dark tracksuit pants and had a tattoo on his right upper arm.

Police Constable David Bellis from Wigan Police Station said: "This was an unprovoked attack on a young boy who was simply enjoying a nice day in the park. If anyone saw the assault I would urge you to call police so we can catch this thug."

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 7124 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
