|Y a Z Card is Xceptional
Z Cards are a credit card-sized information leaflet, giving details on how to prepare for and what to expect in an emergency.
They have been produced by the councilís civil contingencies team and are available across the borough Ė and handy to have in advance of an emergency.
Cllr Fred Walker, the councilís champion for civil contingencies, is taking the opportunity of a week of awareness-raising around the borough to remind people that the little cards could be a lifesaver.
He says: ďAn emergency could be a serious transport accident, major crime, an explosion or a toxic chemical spillage. Even extreme weather like the snow at the start of the year can paralyse local services.Ē
The week of events begins at B&Q in Leigh on Monday 23, moving to the Turnpike Centre in Leigh on Tuesday, then to Wiganís Grand Arcade on Wednesday, the Galleries on Thursday and ending at Wiganís B&Q on Friday 27.
The Z card contains handy and essential tips about being prepared. It advises about preparing an emergency pack for home and the car, an evacuation checklist, and where messages will be broadcast from in the event of a serious crisis.
Residents visiting the roadshow events will have a chance to win one of ten wind-up radios during the course of the week: a must-have if the power is off and you need to know whatís going on.
Look out for the Z cards at the events, at libraries, GP surgeries, sports centres, town halls, area offices and other public buildings.
