Stage Almost Set For “Tuned-In” Concerts
The stage being built

The stage is almost set for a cultural cracker of a fortnight in Wigan.

Not since The Verve played their homecoming gig in 1998 has the leafy surroundings of Haigh Hall Country Park hosted an event of this magnitude.

The Wigan Life “Tuned-In” Concerts will see McFly, N-Dubz, Alesha Dixon, Ronan Keating, The Saturdays and Katherine Jenkins take to the stage throughout the week starting Monday July 5.

But that’s just part of a wider “Summer of Sound” in Wigan. When Sunday’s annual celebration of the borough’s best unsigned bands gets underway, residents and visitors to the town can expect two fantastic weeks of live music.

Pete Burt, Executive Director for Business and Service Development, said: “There’s a real buzz around the town and we can’t wait to get the show started.
“Haigh Festival on Sunday is a fantastic start to the borough’s two weeks of live music.
“Over the next few weeks we expect around 30,000 people to engage and enjoy live music right on their doorstep. This is a cultural event the likes of which Wigan Borough has never seen before and one not to be missed.”

Construction of the 19.5m by 14.5m stage began on Thursday and will be completed Saturday allowing Wigan and Leigh’s best up and coming bands to play on a truly world class stage.

Access to the concerts and parking is via two routes, via School Lane or Higher Lane.

Wigan Borough’s “Summer of Sound” kicks off on July 4 with the annual Haigh Fest featuring the best of Wigan Borough’s unsigned bands. From there, some of the biggest names in music head to Haigh for the Wigan Life Tuned-In Concerts.

McFly will play on Monday July 5, Alesha Dixon and N-Dubz on Tuesday July 6, on Wednesday July 7 Katherine Jenkins will perform with the National Symphony Orchestra, The Saturdays will perform on Thursday July 8 while local lad Simon James launches his solo career by supporting Ronan Keating and completing the Tuned-In line-up on Friday July 9. The “Summer of Sound” climaxes with the 25th Wigan International Jazz Festival which kicks-off on Saturday July 10.
