It’s a wrap for the Munch! Bunch

It’s a wrap for the Munch! Bunch

WALK into the Munch! on Wigan Lane and you’re walking into a different world.

It’s a sandwich bar, coffee house and deli nestled in a prominent cornerstone at Wigan’s premier piece of art deco architecture, Monument Mansions on Wigan Lane.

Inside and out the trendy eaterie wouldn’t look out of place in the middle of Manchester or even downtown Manhattan.
The emphasis is on good food, made to order to go or to sit in and enjoy and not only is it upmarket chic, it’s good for you as well.

Kathryn Southall took over at Munch! a year ago and her mission is to show that healthy food is fashionable as well as very tasty!

Kathryn’s clientele includes the always-on-the-go staff from the nearby Royal Albert Edward Infirmary. The doctors, nurses and health-workers who know a thing or two about nutrition and expect something to savour as well.

“We like to think we are unique in Wigan,” says Kathryn. “We know that more and more people are health conscious these days but they also don’t want to sacrifice taste and quality. It’s our job to prove that healthy eating doesn’t have to be a limp lettuce leaf.”

The seemingly endless list of wraps, salads and paninis that make up t he daily menu are a testament to this – roasted vegetables and mozzarella anyone?

“We use local produce whenever we can,” says Kathryn. “We have listened to what our customers want and provide a balanced menu. If you are being healthy or need to fit into that summer bikini then Munch! is for but we also believe that a little bit of what you fancy never hurt.”

Given the shop’s ethos it as a bit of a no-brainer that Kathryn would sign-up to Wigan Council’s Healthy Business Award. Munch! is the latest business in the borough to pick up the accolade.

“We first found out about it during our regular contact with the council,” says Karthyn. “We thought it was a great idea that the council was promoting a scheme like this so we just had to get involved. The Healthy Business Team provides all the help and support you need and we found the whole process really easy and straightforward.”

Munch! can now proudly display its Healthy Business Award certificate and the customers keep rolling in.
“Good food is what we are about at Munch!” says Kathryn. “If you like it healthy, tasty, top quality at value for money prices then give Munch! a go.”

While Wigan Council’s Cabinet Champion for Lifestyles, Cllr Paul Prescott says: “Congratulations goes to Munch! for being the latest winner of our Healthy Business Award. The council and its partners are encouraging everyone in our borough to adopt healthier lifestyles and one of the best ways to start is through your diet. Munch! is proving that healthy food can be exciting, interesting and tasty. We’re really pleased they can now display the Healthy Business Award certificate and we hope that many more will follow them.”
