|Explore the Future at the Wigan Life Centre Open Day: 17 June
Cllr David Molyneux, deputy leader of Wigan Council and regeneration champion, with Cllr Chris Ready, cabinet champion for customer service, survey the new site
The future is taking shape in the centre of town with the continued construction of the new multi-million pound Wigan Life Centre.
When finished, the site will offer state-of-the-art access to public services, as well as a modern gym, swimming pool and library.
And there’s a chance to see what is going on for yourself at a special open day event this week.
From 11am until 2pm on June 17 at the North entrance to the site at the top of Millgate (close to the Civic Centre) the open day will give all those interested a chance to hear more from the construction team about the work in progress on the multi-million pound project.
Council officers will also be on hand to explain about the range of services that will be on offer to the public when the Life Centre opens.
Once complete, the North site will house a One Stop Shop for public services, an Information and Learning Zone, a Neighbourhood Zone and Wigan Tourist Information Centre.
Wigan Council’s Cabinet Champion for Customer Service, Cllr Chris Ready, says: “Anyone visiting Wigan can see the project really starting to come on now – but I know people want to find out more about it, so this is a great opportunity to see how this exciting project will transform the way services are delivered to the public not just in Wigan but across the borough.”
The council and Morgan Ashurst will hold similar events on 15 September and 8 December.

The latest Local Life centre, inside Platt Bridge’s Community Health Centre, opened last month. There are now centres in Marsh Green Library, Leigh town hall as well as Platt Bridge, offering friendly access to public services within local communities.
