|Thugs use man as punch-bag
A man was set upon by thugs as he walked home from a night out at the pub.
At about 12.30am on Saturday 5 June 2010, the victim - a 37-year-old man from Lower Ince - was walking home along Manchester Road (A577) near to the Dobson Park Industrial Estate, Higher Ince.
He was suddenly approached by two offenders who pushed him to the ground from behind. They punched and kicked him in the face and body before running off.
The victim suffered cuts and bruises to the face, bruised ribs and a bruised elbow and was taken to the Wigan Royal Infirmary for treatment.
One of offenders is described as white, in his mid 30s, with a stocky build, about 5ft 5in tall, with a strong Mancunian accent and wearing a white T-shirt.
His fellow attacker was also white, in his mid 30s, with a slim build, about 6ft tall with red or dark hair.
Police Constable Steve Lilley, based at Bamfurlong police station, said: "This man was minding his own business walking home when he was attacked for no reason.
"They used him as a live punch-bag as he lay on the floor. In many ways, both the victim and his attackers are lucky this isn't even more serious.
"I want to reassure the victim and residents that we are doing all we can to bring these thugs to justice."
