|Van and Trailer Ban at Frog Lane and Orrell HWRCs
Recycling is proving a big hit across the borough’s Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs). In fact, council waste management bosses are having to take a long look at how residents access some of the smaller sites.
Residents with vans or vehicles needing permits and trailers are being redirected to the larger HWRCs, including the purpose-built Kirkless site at the top of Makerfield Way in Ince. This is because Frog Lane and Orrell – both much smaller locations – have become regularly congested and could become dangerous for other site users.
The council’s waste disposal and recycling manager, Dr Gail Robinson, says: “Whilst I am really pleased that recycling at our HWRCs is increasing, I regret that Frog Lane and Orrell sites are now closed to vehicles with trailers or permits. I’m sorry for the inconvenience, but we must put safety first.”
Larger sites – at Kirkless, Chanters Industrial Estate in Atherton and Slag Lane between Leigh and Lowton – remain fully open to vehicles with trailers or needing permits.
Gail adds: “Once again I would like to thank residents for their continued support for recycling. We keep all our sites under review and want to ensure we use them at their most efficient and safest at all times.”
