A Successful Year For Unify Members
Tuesday 27th April, 2010

Despite the economic down turn it is reassuring to note that Wigan largest credit union, Unify Credit Union, is continuing to grow and strengthen.

Unify is a financial co-operative providing a safe place for people to save and low cost loans and, unlike the banks Unify shares its profits with members in the form of a dividend on savings. At this year’s Annual General Meeting held at the Deanery High School on 26th April, the membership agreed a dividend of 2.75%.

Unify’s Treasurer, Peter Kelly said ‘Unify is now stronger than it has ever been, with large capital and cash reserves in place. Unify Credit Union has weathered the storm of the financial depression and emerged bigger, stronger and healthier than it has ever been. Unify is committed to providing all members with a service that is fair, equitable and open to all those people who live or work in the Borough. We have big plans for the future, so watch this space!’

Unify, who recently opened a new office in Leigh Town centre has also voted to waive the membership fee of £1.50 to encourage new members to join this local not for profit organisation.

Carol Isherwood, Chair of Unify said that the success of Unify was down to the staff and volunteers who ensure that a professional yet friendly and approachable service is provided, every day, to an ever increasing membership.

The Board of Unify was also strengthened at the AGM with the appointment of three new Directors, Elaine Smith, Yvonne Fields and Linda Heffey. Thanks were expressed to Christine Willis who has given tirelessly to the credit union movement in Wigan for over 15 years. Christine is retiring due to ill health and will be missed by the staff, volunteers and members.

Unify is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority in the same way as banks and building societies.

Anyone wanting further information should contact Unify Credit Union either at the Ince branch on 01942 701706 or the Leigh branch on 01942 607002. The new branch office is located at 12 Market Street, Leigh and is open Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 2.00pm.
