|French festival at first hand: une invitation de l'ambassadeur
This September, Wigan’s French twin town is holding a huge street theatre party. The city of Angers, in the Loire Valley, will be filled with circus acts, jugglers, stilt walkers, music and dance. And there’s a unique opportunity for you to join in the fun.
Pierre Macé, the ambassador from Angers, says: “The famous Accroche-Coeurs festival is really exciting and well worth a visit by anyone. Each year, 150,000 people visit my home city to experience the event, and this time, there’s a special opportunity for up to 11 locals to join us and experience French family hospitality and the amazing festival itself.”
The cost is about £185 per person, based on 2 sharing. This includes 4 nights in Angers living with a local family, as well as coach and ferry costs, and an evening meal.
The trip is being organised by the Angers Twinning Association, with the coach leaving Wigan and Leigh about 9am on Wednesday 8 September.
There’s an overnight ferry trip from Portsmouth to Saint-Malo, and the arrival time in the historic city of Angers is around 12.30pm on the Thursday. Once in the city, visitors have time to themselves, but they will be able to mix with locals and friends of Angers for some real inside information and advice on the best places to visit and eat at, as well as a chance to enjoy all that the festival offers.
The return journey starts on Monday 13 at 8.30am, arriving back in Wigan and Leigh early on Tuesday.
Pierre adds: “There will be so much to see when the beautiful and historic Angers turns crazy with joie de vivre over the weekend! I’d love to hear from you: you’ll be with people who really know Angers so I guarantee you’ll get so much more out of the visit by coming with us.”
