Man wanted after failing to arrive in Wigan
Wanted: Mebirouk

An image of a man wanted on recall to prison has been released by officers searching for him.

Rachid Mebirouk (born 03/04/1973) is originally from Algeria and is wanted on recall to prison.

He served 15 months jail in North Yorkshire for possessing false identification and was released on licence to an address in Ashton in Makerfield in March 2008.

There is no evidence that Mebirouk ever arrived in Wigan nor did he attend any meetings with the probation service and has disappeared.

There is also a deportation order for Mebirouk once he has served out the rest of his sentence.

Police Constable Graeme Pendlebury, based at Wigan Police Station, said: "Mebirouk proved he had no regard for the justice system by disappearing as soon as he was released on licence.

"He must go back to prison, serve out the rest of his sentence and this time learn the error of his ways.

"We have been doing all we can to find him and now we are naming him because we need the public's help - if you know where he is or have seen him, please contact me."

Anyone with information is asked to call police in Wigan on 0161 856 7436 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
