Armed robber steals woman's bike
Tuesday 20th April, 2010

A robber who was in a large gang stole a woman's bike in Wigan.

At about 11.15pm on Sunday 18 April 2010, the offender approached the victim, aged 19, who was sitting on her bicycle on Montrose Avenue, Norley Hall.

He demanded her bike before producing a large kitchen knife. He threatened the victim, prompting her to hand over her bike, before riffling through her pockets and stealing a mobile phone.

He then rode off towards Kitt Green.

The offender is described as white, about 20 years old, 6ft 3in tall, of large build and was in a group of about 10 people.

The bicycle is a black and red Viper mountain bike.

Detective Sergeant Gary Ashurst, of the Volume Crime Team at Wigan, said: "The victim is understandably shaken as a result of this robbery and we are doing all we can to identify this robber and return her property to her.

"The offender was in quite a large group and I have no doubt someone within that group will be shocked by what happened and I would urge them to get in touch.

"All information we get can be treated in strict confidence."

Anyone with information is asked to call Wigan Volume Crime Team on 0161 856 7255, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
