|Lamberhead Green Library Opening Soon!
The new Abraham Guest High School nears completion.
MORE choice, more books, more computers and more time!
Residents in Orrell, Lamberhead Green, Kitt Green, Pemberton and Norley Hall are being encouraged to check out their new library which is offering more for everyone.
Library services, currently being delivered from Orrell Library, will relocate one mile to Lamberhead Green at the site of the new Abraham Guest Specialist Sports & Arts College, Greenhey from April 6.
As well as the latest best sellers, CDs and DVDs, there will be a range of activities for all ages including reading groups, under 5’s story time, basic IT courses and family history sessions.
Library hours will be extended to include evening openings until 8pm and there will be more free internet access as the number of PCs is increased from five to eight.
Wigan Leisure & Culture Trust’s Taryn Pearson, Head of Lifelong Learning and Information, said: “Residents from all of these wards will be able to access library services in a modern, exciting setting with more choice than before. Relocating services onto a shared site proved an overwhelming success in Platt Bridge and we believe it will be similarly well received in Lamberhead Green.”
The new library is part of the £23m Abraham Guest Specialist Sports & Arts College – Wigan’s first secondary school to be built in three decades.
A decision was taken to relocate library services because the Orrell Post site was restrictive in terms of access and capacity.
A special week of events will be held on the week commencing March 8 at Orrell Library to mark the relocation and to provide more information about the new site. Throughout the week there will be activities for all ages including, t-shirt painting, a local history talk and a bring and buy sale.
