|There's no Monopoly over the Community Chest
Need some new kitchen equipment at the community hall? New instruments for the band? Or even some cash for leaflets and posters?
The Community Chest may be just for you. Itís not just a square on the Monopoly board next to the Old Kent Road, itís a real resource providing small grants for community groups who encourage people to take part in recreation or leisure activities where the aim is to promote education, health and learning.
Wigan Council is keen to hear from local voluntary groups who would like help with buying equipment or for special events.
Cllr David Molyneux, cabinet champion for regeneration, says: ďThere are funds remaining in this yearís programme which runs until March. If you are in a voluntary group, grants of up to £1500 are available so do submit your application as soon as possible.Ē
Some recent successful funding requests have provided:
New ideas, projects which demonstrate long term benefits to the local community or those which provide good value for money by the sharing of resources, are likely to receive the highest levels of funding, which can be up to 100%.
- indoor bowling equipment
- furniture for a community outreach centre
- contributions towards a local art exhibition
- gardening equipment for allotments
