|Woman dies after confronting car thief
A woman has died after she attempted to confront a thief who was stealing her car in Worsley Mesnes.
At about 4.20pm on Thursday 14 January 2010, the woman spotted someone in the drivers seat of her yellow MG parked on Prestt Grove.
As she walked to the front of the car, the thief drove at her, colliding with the woman.
The car then drove off.
She suffered serious head injuries in the collision and was taken to Wigan Royal Infirmary. The woman, believed to be 42, later died as a result of her injuries.
Officers are now appealing for anyone who has seen the stolen MG, registration AK53 WNW, to call police.
Detective Chief Inspector Robert Tonge of Wigan CID said: "This is a shocking incident in which a car thief has deliberately driven at a woman.
"She went onto the car bonnet and suffered a serious head injury. Tragically, she later died in hospital. Whoever did this is clearly reckless and potentially dangerous so we need the public's help to catch him.
"It's quite a distinctive vehicle so we really need to hear from anyone who knows of this car's whereabouts.
"This happened at a busy time of day so we want to hear from anyone who might have seen something."
Anyone with information is asked to call Wigan CID on 0161 856 7259 or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
