Rubbish latest
Tuesday 12th January, 2010

Rubbish collections have now resumed on all collection routes in Wigan borough. The thaw is well under way and this is helping the refuse collectors to reach more properties than anticipated.

Areas for Wednesday's collection are: Hindley Green, Leigh, Lowton, Orrell, Standish, Wigan (Swinley / Beech Hill).

Where access is possible large 26 tonne bin wagons will be collecting black wheelie bins (and any excess waste).

However there are still isolated pockets deep within estate roads that are treacherous underfoot. If the larger vehicles cannot access areas affected by compacted snow or ice, smaller vehicles will be deployed. Residents are asked to note that if their area is still affected in this way the smaller vehicle will only be able to collect bagged waste, not wheelie bins. In this case please put your waste out in bags by 7am on your normal collection day and we will endeavour to send a smaller vehicle to collect.

There are no recycling collections at present and residents are asked to keep hold of their recyclables or take them to a household waste recycling centre or supermarket site if safe to do so. This is being reviewed daily and we aim to bring the service back as soon as possible.

The scheduled Christmas Tree collection service has similarly been postponed. Residents can keep hold of their trees until normal green waste collections resume from 15 February or take them to the nearest household waste recycling centre.
