Steve Corns Skis In Standish
The snow has brought some challenges across the borough, but with it some fun.
Steve Corns, Standish, finished work at Wigan Council and dug out his cross country skis and took to the hills most evenings this week.
The IT Programme Manager for Health and Social Care is an experienced skier and says “The conditions were just perfect, who needs to travel to the slopes when you can ski in Standish.”
Skiing is one of the best forms of exercise to burn excess calories. Research reveals that you can burn up to 11 calories per minute. - which is perfect for burning the extra 500 calories a day usually eaten through out Christmas and new year.
Hardly surprising, that many of us will have piled on at least 2-3 lbs (1-1 ˝ kilos) over the festive season, not just from indulging in the traditional Christmas dinner which contains 3,500 calories.
Steve says: “Night cross country skiing is beautiful, I skied for about two hours each time across local tracks, footpaths and through the woods. I must have burned almost 3,000 calories”
