|Direct appeal to group of witnesses
Police are making a direct appeal to a group of young people who may have witnessed an assault in which a 44-year-old man suffered a series eye injury.
At about 6pm on Friday 18 December 2009, the victim was on Yewdale Road, Bryn, when he got into an argument with two men.
He was punched in the face and fell to the floor where he was kicked in the face. The offenders then ran off.
Although a number of witnesses have come forward to describe the assault, officers now want to speak to a group of youngsters who may have seen the verbal argument that sparked the violence.
Detective Constable Kevin Telford, of Wigan CID, said: "We would really like to hear from a group of young people and teenagers who we believe were standing nearby at the time.
"They could hold vital clues about how an apparent verbal altercation spilled over into violence."
Anyone with information is asked to call Wigan CID on 0161 856 7252 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Cullum Bradshaw (born 23/11/88) of Yewdale Road, Bryn, has been charged with causing actual bodily harm and criminal damage. He was due before magistrates in Wigan on Monday 21 December 2009.
A 23-year-old man was arrested and has been bailed until 18 February 2010 pending further police inquiries.
