Wigan Market’s open for Christmas
Tuesday 8th December, 2009

Santa is in his Grotto and there’s plenty of late night shopping as well.

With extra shopping hours, plenty of parking and stalls offering everything you’ll need, Wigan Market Hall is ready to welcome visitors for all their Christmas shopping needs.

Children will be thrilled to meet Father Christmas, who has set up his grotto by the New Market Hall entrance. For the £3 admission fee, Santa’s helper, market trader Dave Clitheroe, promises a toy gift which would normally retail for at least £8. Dave, who also ran the Market’s Halloween stall, will be donating 50p from each visit to Derian House children’s charity.

The grotto will be open 10am to 4pm on 10-12 December, and then daily from 14 December until Christmas.

The council’s cabinet champion for regeneration, Cllr David Molyneux, has been leading ‘buy local’ initiatives during recent troubled times. He says: “There’s lots to see and do. The message is – shop, have fun, and bring the kids as well. It is especially important to support your local town centre in the run up to Christmas and with the wealth of stalls, shops and products available, you are sure to find everything you need for a fantastic Christmas.”

The market hall will be open for late night shopping on Thursdays 10 and 17 December until 8pm, as well as Sundays 13 and 20 December 11-5 and normal shopping times as well.
