Stewart Milne Homes Teams Up With Action For Children to Bring Christmas Cheer in Wigan
Friday 13th November, 2009

Stewart Milne Homes has joined forces with children’s charity Action for Children to launch a local Giving Tree appeal to help ensure every child across Wigan has a gift to open on Christmas Day.

This year, for the first time, Stewart Milne Homes will be hosting a dedicated Giving Tree at its Trencherfield Mill development, at the heart of the Wigan Pier quarter, to help collect extra Christmas gifts on behalf of Action for Children and its services in Wigan.

The specially decorated Christmas tree at Trencherfield Mill will open on 04 December, and is designed to offer an easy and convenient way for individuals across Wigan to support the work of Action for Children and help vulnerable children amongst the community celebrate the festive holiday.

Established for over 140 years, Action for Children supports some of the most vulnerable children and young people throughout the UK. The charity recently launched a fundraising appeal highlighting the issues of neglect in a bid to prevent children suffering the deprivation of basic needs such as nutrition, medical attention, emotional support, safety and warmth.

Alysha Lawlor, senior fundraising executive, Action for Children, commented: “Christmas is an especially difficult time for many of the children we work with through our Wigan services. With this Giving Tree appeal we aim to ease some of the pressures faced by vulnerable children and young people so that they can enjoy some of the special qualities of this time of year.

“We are delighted to be working with Stewart Milne Homes this year and hope the new Giving Tree initiative will encourage people to donate to the children we work with and help us put smiles on more faces this Christmas.”

Sales and marketing director of Stewart Milne Homes North West England, Simon Bennett, said: “This new partnership with Action for Children in Wigan gives us a great opportunity to utilise our marketing suite for a truly worthwhile cause and the team has already pledged to donate the first gifts.

“We hope we can encourage others to get involved with the campaign this year and help more children across Wigan enjoy Christmas. There are over 80,000 people living in Wigan - a small portion of residents and local businesses need only add one extra gift to their shopping list to make a really big difference.”

Trencherfield Mill is open Thursday to Monday, 10am until 5.30pm. For more information, contact 01942 497506 or visit stewartmilnehomes.com. For further details about the work of Action for Children and its current appeal, visit actionforchildren.org.uk.
