|Ashton’s Lights Spectacular
Last year's switch on by Cllr Tushingham, with resident Caroline Knowles and Calvin Walsh, aged 5.
So here it is Merry Christmas, everybody’s having fun ….
And they always do at Ashton Library when the big festive lights switch on takes place amid carols, food and community fun.
This year, the fun begins at 6.30pm on Friday 27 November, with carols from the Trinity Girls Band. Staff from Ashton’s newest eatery The Grill will be serving hot food.
And, as ever, there’s a special draw with the lucky winner being the one who can claim the honour of actually switching on the town’s Christmas lights!
Afterwards, there’s an invitation for light refreshments in Molly Mac’s Café for those who fancy a sit down with a hot drink and a mince pie supplied by Greggs the baker.
Ward councillor Paul Tushingham is the regular MC for the night. He says: “It’s wonderful when the community comes together for this annual event. It has become a real fixture for locals and I’m delighted to invite everyone to join us for the start of our Christmas season.”
As part of the Christmas festivities, shops and businesses in Ashton are invited to take part in the Ashton Business Partnership’s best dressed window competition. Local ward councillors will be judging the displays on Monday 14 December. The winner will receive a complimentary banquet for two courtesy of Shimla Spice.
