Hitchen Foods Sara Nuttall – Head of Commercial, Clair Smith – National Account Manager, Adrian Dowds – Project Manager, WLCT’s Tourism Manager Keith Bergman, Paul Hand – Commercial Manager, Katy Smeathers – Retail Data Analyst, Richard Broadley – Head of Finance, Victoria Green – Category Manager with an enlarged version of the 2010 Food and Drink Festival brochure.

THEY’VE both had a taste of the jungle in TV’s hit show “I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here”.

Now two of the country’s most famous culinary celebrities will be swapping bush tucker for northern hospitality at next year’s Wigan Food and Drink Festival.

TV chef Antony Worrall Thompson and wine expert Jilly Goolden will head up two special events as part of the ten day culinary celebration.

Wigan’s third Food and Drink Festival will take place 4th – 14th March 2010. It will be the biggest festival to date and includes on its menu – The CAMRA Wigan Beer Festival, The Wigan Outdoor Market Kitchen Theatre, the Fine Food Trail, a packed food and drink events programme and the Sweet Tooth Fair.

The festival is fast becoming one of the north west’s largest and most respected food and drink events. The 2010 festival is expected to be enjoyed by more than 50,000 people.

Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust Tourism Manager and festival organiser, Keith Bergman said: “The event has really grown. What started off with a couple of demonstrations in a marquee a few years ago has gone on to be one of the top food and drink events in the regional calendar.”

For those who do not know their old world from their new world, Jilly Goolden will be hosting a ‘Wines of the World’ tasting event at Haigh Hall on Friday 12th March.

Whilst Antony Worrall Thompson will host ‘Dinner with AWT’ at Haigh Hall on Wednesday 10th March. Guests will be able to meet the man and enjoy Antony’s specially selected menu.

Both Antony and Jilly will also be in the Outdoor Market Kitchen Theatre providing free demonstrations during the week. Antony will be giving a ‘Love Your Leftovers’ – Love Food Hate Waste cookery class on the afternoon of the 10th.

For the second year running national food supplier Hitchen Foods are the main festival sponsor.

Hitchen Managing Director, Paul Peachey, recognises the value of the event for the borough. He said: “The festival is now more than a local celebration of food and drink. It is a festival that attracts visitors, spend and it is helping change how the town is seen. We are proud to be a part of this food and drink success story.”

The full festival programme and tickets for events will be available from Wigan Tourist Information Centre in December. Telephone 01942 825677.
