|A Nightmare on Market Street...
If you’re in the market for a fright...
Then Wigan Market is the place to be.
In the run up to this year’s Hallowe'en celebrations (Saturday October 31) the popular town centre market has welcomed a ‘spook-tacular’ new attraction in the shape of a stall and grotto dedicated to all things ghoulish.
The Hallowe'en Stall, close to the New Market Street entrance, is a unique mixture of shop and showcase.
Shoppers and passers-by can marvel at fully moving animated figures including a skeleton and everyone’s favourite vampire Count Dracula.
And for those who want to dress up for the big night the stall offers a great range of scary costumes – think ghouls, zombies and ghosts!
The show is on from now right up until Halloween night and as well as being a great bit of fun it’s also helping to raise money for a very worthy cause, with a collection for Derian House Children’s Hospice. And that’s not all because there are plenty of Hallowe'en-themed activities taking place including face-painting, spooky story sessions, balloon modelling and a scary picture competition.
The face painting and balloon modelling will be taking place at the Hallowe'en stall on :
* Saturday 24 October
* Saturday 31 October
Characters including Wiggy and a stilt-walker will be walking around the town centre on the above dates handing out freebies including toys and sweets.
The rules for the Hallowe'en drawing competition are:
* Open to under 10s
* Entrants will need to write their name, age, address and telephone number on the back of the picture.
* Entries need to be pinned up in the seating area in the Market Hall before noon on Saturday October 31.
* Three winners will be chosen at this time and will be awarded a £20 Argos gift voucher.
Wigan Council’s markets' manager Phil Edge says: “We’re coming up to a great time of year when there will be plenty of celebrations and events and what better way to kick the whole season off than with a great spooky Hallowe'en party?
“The Hallowe'en Stall really is a crowd pleaser and I’d urge everyone to come along and join in the fun.
“We are making Wigan Market a more modern, exciting and interactive shopping experience for everyone.”
Dave Clitheroe, who runs the Hallowe'en Stall adds: “This is our first year at Wigan Market and it’s proving to be a real success. We got everything you’ll need to make your Hallowe'en party go with a bang and a lot more besides.
“The moving figures are already proving really popular so come and see us. You’ll be so scared you’ll want to come back for more!”
