The event organised by Wigan Borough Sports Council and supported by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust’s Sports Development Unit saw more than 40 local sports clubs in attendance.
Andy Clayton, joint chair of Wigan Borough Sports Council, said: “It was fantastic to see so many clubs attend the meeting and hear Jenny speak about how volunteers, club and her family have supported her throughout her career.”
Jenny said: “I am proud that I come from Wigan and it has always provided me with training facilities such as Robin Park and Haigh Hall necessary to become the athlete I am today.
“This Sports Performance Fund is fantastic and will undoubtedly support athletes just like myself that need financial support to keep training and competing at national and international level.”
The Wigan Sports Performance Fund is supported by Manchester Airport and will support athletes who are competing at a national level and are living in Wigan Borough.
Athletes can apply for a grant of up to £750 that will provide valuable financial support towards training and competition costs.
