Large Cannabis Farm Discovered in Warehouse
Wednesday 9th September, 2009

A large cannabis farm has been discovered after officers swooped on a warehouse in Wigan.

The farm was found after a raid at the Albert Colliery Industrial Estate on Bolton House Road, Bickershaw today, Wednesday 9 September 2009.

A cannabis farm of over 840 plants was discovered, and now police have launched an inquiry to trace those responsible.

Inspector Rachel Buckle said: "Cannabis farms are not a harmless enterprise.

"The sale of these drugs creates and feeds people's addictions, and drug abuse is often a contributing cause in other serious crimes such as robbery and burglary as addicts have to pay to feed their habit.

"To have discovered such a large farm shows what can be achieved when everyone works together; we will and do act on information that is provided to us.

"I would therefore urge the community to help be our eyes and ears, and we are asking anyone who has seen suspicious activity around the estate to call us.

"These sorts of criminal enterprises give communities a bad name and together we can stop criminals from profiting."

Anyone with information should call Greater Manchester Police on 0161 856 5307 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
