|Woman killed following collision in Wigan
A woman has been killed and a man is critically ill following a collision in Wigan.
Shortly after 3am on Friday 28 August 2009, police were called to Warrington Road (A49) in Newtown, following reports of a car having collided into a fence.
Officers and the Fire Service attended the scene and found that a man and a woman were trapped inside the MG sports car.
The Fire Service cut free both the driver and passenger, and they were taken to Royal Wigan Hospital.
The woman, aged 19, who was a passenger inside the car, died a short time later. The man, aged 21, remains in a critical condition.
Warrington Road was closed for several hours, but is being re-opened.
