Making Haigh An Entertainment Hotspot

WIGAN’S historic Haigh Hall has unveiled one of its “strongest” entertainment line-ups in years.

And it all kicks off this weekend with a children’s Bank Holiday Bonanza starring TV favourites Rainbow.

On Saturday the Grade II listed manor house and its acres of grounds will host comedy illusion with Jay and Jen Fortune.

Sunday will see “Big Top” fun with stilt walkers, balloon modellers, magicians, music and competitions.

On Bank Holiday Monday, Zippy, George and Bungle top the bill in a roadshow of the hugely popular children’s TV show.

It marks the start of a new bid by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, who manage Haigh Hall, to attract big name acts to the scenic venue.

New for 2009 is “An Evening with…” which starts on Friday 4th September with Britain’s best loved TV couch potato Ricky Tomlinson. The Royle Family star is promising to get “up close” and personal with his guests as part of this fun filled show.

Rugby fans can enjoy an evening with two former Wigan Warriors prop forwards Barrie McDermott and Terry O’Connor on Friday 13th November. They’ll share their anecdotes, memories and will host a question and answer session.

Following their 72nd album hitting the charts earlier this year The Bachelors with John Stokes will perform on 18th November.

Haigh Hall manager Chris Walne said “This is the most exciting programme Haigh has announced for a number of years.
“It is important that we build a strong line-up of events and bring the best of live entertainment to the borough of Wigan.
“Haigh Hall itself is a beautiful venue and I feel the line-up of artists and entertainment we have assembled will complement these magnificent surroundings.”

Haigh will also host a number of Christmas party nights set to the backdrop of TV characters inspired from shows including Father Ted and Fawlty Towers.

There will also be a Christmas Murder Mystery, Casino Party Night and in the run up to Christmas Haigh welcomes The Cathedral Choir of Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral in an evening of contemporary and traditional music for the festive season.
