|Community left devastated after snooker club torched
Damage which could cost thousands to repair was caused when a fire ripped through a snooker hall in Stubshaw Cross, Wigan.
Shortly after 10.15pm on Wednesday 19 August 2009, police were called to Bolton Road, following reports a snooker club had been set alight.
Nobody was in the building at the time, but the snooker hall has been badly damaged.
An arson investigation has been launched and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
An offender may have been on the roof prior to the arson attack and three men were also seen afterwards on quad bikes, though it is not known whether they were connected to the fire.
Detective Constable Julian Hopkins, of Wigan CID, said: “This was a cruel arson attack, which has wrecked the building. It was sheer luck that no further damage was caused to neighbouring houses and that no-one was injured.
“This snooker club was due to open soon and many residents were looking forward to using it. This fire has not only devastated the building, but also the local community.
”I’d urge anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously around the time of the fire, or if you know who’s responsible to contact us.”
