|Attempted robbery at bookmakers
Two men attempted to rob a bookmaker in Wigan.
On Saturday 25 July 2009, two masked offenders, both carrying axes ran into Tote Bookmakers, Market Street, Hindley just after 8pm.
They got in through a back door and approached the security screen by the till.
One man, who demanded money, threatened the shopworker with an axe.
They damaged the security screens around the till area using the axes but they could not get in, so both men ran out.
The men were seen running away through a nearby park discarding their clothes.
One man was described as 5ft 10ins tall and wearing all dark clothing.
Detective Constable Andrew Whittle of Wigan CID said: "These men tried to use violence in order to steal cash.
"As they failed in this attempt I want to catch them before they try something like this again.
"If you were in the area around the time of the incident or even a short time after when the men may have still been in the park, and you saw anything of a suspicious nature then please get in touch."
