Comments Great site. This is the only site that explains Wigan in detail that I have found. How about some pictures showing our beloved Wigan rugby team, and not so beloved Wigan Athletic football team? Please???

Comments Nice site, however I must take issue with you about the photograph "Hindley - Looking up Market Street c 1930" It appears to me from the late 1950's or early 60's as there are no tramlines or overhead wires, the streetlights appear to be sodium types and the light coloured car appears to be a Ford Popular or Prefect introduced about 1959

Comments My great-grandparents (Bartons and Browns) came across at the turn of the century to mine coal here. My Great-Aunt Maudie lived to be 101 and told me stories about Wigan when I was a child. I hope to visit in the future - perhaps at the 100 year mark of my family's emmigration. I have saved this site to my favorite places! Thank you for the glimpse.

Comments We sometimes feel homesick as we moved to Canada 10 months ago. It was great to see pictures of our home town and the Orwell, which is where we met. We have lots of memories from Wigan - hi to all our friends and family in Pemberton, Aspull, Standish Lwr Ground, Standish and Ashton. We miss Pooles pies, and the Rugby - good luck for the season.

  Comments Hi fellow "Pie-Eaters"
I was born in Wigan and still think that there is no place quite like it! I have lived in various places including Singapore and Northern Ireland. I think this is a great site and will be looking at it often.
I have been researching my family history for about ten years and my main family names are Dawson, Forshaw, Liptrot, Beesley plus many others in the Wigan area. I went to Beech Hill Primary School and the Girls
High School. I will dig out some photos for the site.

Comments Very enjoyable site; will be back. Am researching the Gore, Marsden, Livesey, Walls and Glover families. (My maternal grandfather was Samuel Marsden of Abram, and my paternal grandfather Peter Gore of Leigh.)
On a different tack, has anyone information about the term 'connyfodle', used by my grandmother to mean 'throw together', as when you cook something but haven't got quite the right ingredients -hence 'connyfodle pudding?
