When I was in my teens, my owld fella used to tell me that Top of the Pops was rubbish. " A load of talentless buggers who can't even play their instruments" is what he'd say every Thursday evening when I settled down to watch.

A lot of water has trickled under my bridge since then. I'm older, wiser and a lot less gullible. And you know what? I think my owld fella was bloody right!

Aye, a perceptive old sod, was my father.

Mind you, it doesn't take a great deal of perception to figure out where pop music is coming from and who it's aimed at.

Or am I just an old git?

On my last trip back home to Wigan I watch TOTP's and I thought it was really crap now, and I'm not that owd at all.

They'll probably just bring out something else along similar lines anyway.

A few years ago, very briefly, BBC America showed TOTP2, but it didn't stick around very long.

But as for them getting shut of TOTP, I can understand that. Times change after all, and people don't necessarily want the same now as they did twenty or so years ago.

Besides which, most modern 'music' is a load of crap, manufactured teenybopper stuff. Give me older classic rock etc any day - the kind of stuff you probably wouldn't see on TOTP these days anyway.
