I've used Avast but I like AVG Free better, http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
Avast and AVG are as good as each other at detecing viruses, it's just that I prefer AVG's interface and it's ability to schedule updates and scans.

That might have been me ...... if it wasn't then it should have been. Smile

AVAST! is brilliant!

I have used it for a couple of years now and am 100% happy with it.

Avoid BY's antivirus/firewall software like the plague. Its full of bugs & slows down your computer.

Avast is imo the best you can get for nowt.

In my humble opinion Avast and AVG free versions are much the same. Personally i have always used AVG with a firewall and had no problems. My advice would be to use either of these. Be aware that if these detect a virus and report they can't remove them automatically, you may have to do it manually, and AVG has a good support web site.
Nothing is rock solid, safe surfing and awareness of how email virus's are transported and infect computers via attachments, is a must these days.
If you wish to pay for antivirus software Trend is one of the best, they also have a free online scanner, Trend Housecall http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
