It sounds like you may not have enough space on your hard drive to run defrag. Try and free up some space on your drive then do as follows.

1) Reboot your machine. When the Windows logo is diplayed press F8 to get the boot options. Select "Safe Mode"

2) Once you are booted into "Safe Mode", go to the Start Menu and select Run. In the Run text box type "cmd" and hit enter.

3) From the command window type the command "defrag c: -v" (without the quotes) to defrag your c: drive. You can also type "defrag c: -a -v" to analyze your hard drive with actually performing the defrag operation.

Hope this helps

download this and you wont need to defrag as it cleans up your crap dead quick - the first one will be slow if you have never defragged before but after that it literally takes seconds and its totally free and highly recommended.

www.ccleaner.com

click download (the grey one at the top of screen)
now click on alternative download will autstart
you'll probably get an information bar - yellow bar across top of your screen - this is cos of high security
click the yellow bar and click downlaod file
it will start soon as you click run - takes about 20 secs
once its done it will ask do you want to run this software - click run
it will show a box saying English say ok (click on ok dont say it)
click next and I agree and next again. Uncheck the add cleaner yahoo toolbar if you dont want it on your screen as it is annoying
click install
click finish
you should now have a CCleaner (crap cleaner) icon on your desktop - a little read C on your desktop
click on your desktop icon and it will open
if you want to keep the history - the www. addresses that you have just been into on your address bar drop down box at the top of your screen - if you use them this way rather than saving them in your favourites. Tajke the tick out of the history box on the left hand side of the screen
click analyze
this will then show you all the crap you have left behind on your screen - a footstep if you like of where you have been
Once finished analyzing click run cleaner. (you can odf course just hit the run cleaner if you arent' bovered what about looking at the endless list of crap)
Each time you log off your pc at night just do a quick run cleaner makes it nice n fresh and ready for use the next day - speeds it up no end.

You can also click on the issues icon on the ccleaner program - this will tell you faults on your pc - ie when you delete a program - it always leaves a trace behind called a DL file - this program will get rid of them for you.
It asks you do you want to back up before deleting the issues but thats your choice if you say yeah or ney.
Have ago and see how much you speed up on your pc. Don't fall for all them that flash up on screens - most of them are a con!!! Hope this helps defrag your pc - defragging should not be a problem after this. You are expereinceing problems cos your system 'falls over' as its too big to defrag as too much 'crap' stored on it Good Luck.

Have you tried it yet? I have put it on all my families computers - never looked back - no need to spend ages waiting for defrag to end.
