Mick regarding your post on your photo a day of the entrance gates to the Jeffreys Miller Malt Works and Potter's, you should have inquired at the car repairers, the mechanic there has a key for the gates, hence the old engine oil on top to prevent folks climbing over, I don't know if all the buildings were destroyed by the fire or if the fire brigade got access through those gates.

The descendants of the Hampson's still own the land and the units at Valley Gate as it is now called, they have an office in one of the units, Hampson Partnership LLP.

Ernest Jeffreys Hampson who owned the Malt Works and Potter's Herbal Supplies lived at Haigh Cottage on Hall Lane, well saying cottage it is more like a mansion, it was up for sale and here are the details: https://www.onthemarket.com/details/3204408/

I never knew that the Crawford's had Haigh Cottage built for them to live in whilst Haigh Hall was being re-built.

A photo of the derelict Potter's building before the fire that destroyed it.

And on fire a few months ago.

There are some more photos of the vandalised buildings on the derelict sites websitehttps://www.derelictplaces.co.uk/main/industrial-sites/36423-brock-mill-leyland-mill-wigan-june-2018-a.html#.XaSPB0b0k2w

There's a photograph on Geograph of the steam pump that was at the malt works. I've taken the actual image from off here because of copyright issue.

It is mentioned here, scroll down to 6. (SD585076) Jeffreys Miller & Co Ltd, Leyland Mills, Wigan

Entrance to the foundry site, the large building was also a foundry and at one time it had a tall chimney rising up from the front.

The Jeffreys Miller part of the mill was on fire Wednesday night 22/10/2019, I suppose now the site shall be cleared and sold off for housing, I could well imagine that developers flying overhead in their plush helicopters looking for prime housing sites would have wanted to get their hands on that land for some time.
