We are urging people to be vigilant after needles have been found at a local play area.

Nine syringes have been removed from the sand area at Norley Hall playground. The needles were pointing up as if buried in the sand deliberately.

The playground remains closed following arson damage over the weekend and we are monitoring it.

Kathryn Rees, assistant director for transformation at the council, said: “We are absolutely appalled that somebody would deliberately do this at a children’s play area.

“We will not tolerate anti-social behaviour which poses a real threat to our communities and would urge any residents with concerns to speak to us.

“Although we believe it is an isolated incident in this area we would encourage people to be vigilant when visiting their local park and please report anything suspicious to the police.”

If anyone does come across a needle in a public area it should be reported to the council and should not be touched.

If you are concerned about a potential needle injury you should seek medical advice immediately.

Its not just the needles that have been buried in the sand I think a lot of the folk who live there and over the years have been denying whats been going on have had there heads buried in the sand as well

Mick, the yobbos who do that have got S**T for brains, unfortunately that play park has been a target by those types ever since it was built, the same sort also shove the broken necks from glass bottles into the grass on playing fields, put glass bottles or self tapping screws under car tyres and also put a deep scratch along the length of them, the saddest part is their mothers consider them to be little angels as did the mothers of Adolf Hitler, Idi Amin and Pol Pot.
