Hello, I've been lurking here for a while. I was wondering if you lovely people could help me. I'm thinking of moving to Ince, Leaway, though potentially other parts of Ince.

In terms of council houses/estates. Which ones are a no-no?

Cheers Smile

There are far worse places in the far reaching areas of the Borough of Wigan than Ince, take the Abbey Lane or Shakerley estates for example. Shocked

I have heard a few folks from out of Wigan asking for directions to Inca or Inke, either Higher or Lower. Laughing

I'd like people to tell me what it's like to live there. I know there is the lovely Greenheart area, and access to the canal, leading to the Flashes etc, but really know nothing of the area, cheers.

Since all the contaminated land on that estate got dug up, they have really nice gardens. Very Happy

Yes, but where did they put all the contaminated soil?

Ha ha! When I looked at the street, my first thought was 'How immaculate are all the gardens?' I then learned that the reason was the digging up of gardens and new drives, lawns etc.

I guess there are are bad spots on all council estates, I think as long as your immesiate neighbours are ok, that's all you can ask for

With any luck Dodger, they put it in Leigh! Laughing

Go and introduce yourself to your neighbours before you move in. That way, you'll have an idea of what to expect.

Yeah, I nabbed a couple of people when I went viewing the property, they said it was a nice area. Gonna do a stake out, I think and see what happens at night!! It's very scary, the thought of moving to an area you know nothing about. I have done as much research as I can, but, as you can imagine, that isn't enough! Smile

Leaway I'm told isn't too bad, it's The Grove and Pinewood Crescent where the problems with feral kids are, they congregate under the road bridge and cause havoc around there, they burned the pensioners clubhouse down on Canal Street leading to the playing fields and a few years back set fire to the perspex shelter on the rail station.

Leaway may as well be the Grove, given it's almost a straight run from it to the top end of the Grove, connected by Greenfield Ave. I'd say Foster Ave and behind the former Swan pub are far worse areas to live TBH.
