Plans are afoot to close both the Butchery and the Fresh Fish Counters at Tesco Extra at Central Park Way, if you value these counters please send an email telling how much you would like to see these counters to remain open to Tesco Customer Support.

Customer Services Contact Form

The fresh meat and fish on these counters are an asset to shopping in Wigan centre rather than the pre-packed products that shall be the only choice available if these counters close. I'm told that if they do close then the area shall be boarded over and remain empty - very much like the shops and shopping units in the town centre.

Theres nothing fresh on the counters, all the fish comes in frozen and the meat comes in big chunks and then packed up for easy use packs>
What I want to know is who makes Redmans pies, they dont make them in the market hall, so whos pies are they

The only fish they sell that was previously frozen is Tuna, and that's the same wherever, though they do sell frozen Seafood packs ie. cockles, mussels etc.

The meat is definitely fresh and not previously frozen and the assistants will cut your steaks to whatever thickness you require, they'll even spatchcock your chicken if need be. The meat on there is superior to the pre-packed and if you go late on Saturday afternoons they've just about sold out, so the counter is very popular, and whenever they put the reduced items from the counters out it's like a rugby scrum with folks grabbing at products, even with a reduction of a quid or so. https://youtu.be/onQ3rok5Klk

Wigan town centre shall definitely become even more poorer for shopping if these counters close. I think they'll be shooting themselves in the foot with these plans, it may well save in the short run with not paying wages, though what may it cost them in the long run.

Who makes Redman's pies - I've no idea. They had a big premises on Chapel Green Road Hindley at one time, so maybe they were made there, after a web search it seems that is now a Premier convenience shop with flats at the rear and above.

Last I heard was that Tesco were on about closing the Wigan Central Park store, so maybe yoo have heard it wrong and they are closing the store and leaving a couple of Market Type Stalls open in the car park, one selling fish and tuther selling meat Smile

Folks in Hindley must be Pescatarians, they are to close the Butchery Counter at Tesco Hindley and yet keep open the Fish Counter as apparently much more fish is sold there than meat.
