i did indeed own a Yam ped! reg no OTB161R in 77 my 1st foray into what would turn out to be a very expensive hobby! it was ke kenny roberts FSIE DX as it had a disc brake up front and was yellow and black which was the colours of king Kenny as he was known as for harleys they are crap! and ive had better mark my words the bike ive got now is a 1800 cc cruiser more reliable than a harley will ever be, from your tone i see you think im telling porkies about the bikes ive had but i can back all my claims up if you so wish.
you mentioning yam peds did your mate have one or shock horror did you bikes are my world and have been the only constant in my life 99% of the males i know knock or about with are because of bikes and i know a hell of a lot of folks i would advise anybody who is feeling down to get a motorcycle licence it will change there lives i guarantee it if fact chatty do yourself a favour get a bike lad it will make that chip on your shoulder disappear seriously do it chatty
