Hi Golden Bear! Colin Clarke was sent off against Leeds in the 2nd round of the Championship play-offs by referee Laurie Gant, who had sent him off in the past. Wigan won 22-5 and got through to the semi-final against Halifax [Wigan lost that one 25-12!]. If Clarke had been suspended for one game he would have been available for selection at Wembley. Unfortunately he was suspended 2 matches and therefore missed the final. Wigan's Vice-Chairman [at the time] Norman Bibby was quoted in the local press: 'It's a harsh decision, considering Clarke's offence was only technical. We expected him to get a one match suspension. We wouldn't have grumbled at that.' Of course, all of the foregoing comes courtesy of my [now decaying] scrapbook! You don't think I remembered all these details on my own do you, GB! [By the way, I tried to put a scan of the article on here but somehow it won't let me! Either that or I'm guilty of a technical offence myself!]
