I think so, he made an appeal the next day because some people watching thought they heard one of them say " Don't shoot him" !.
He also said that some of his Chinese friends told him it was more than possible he could have been armed.
The police woman was absolutely useless , in fact at one point it looked like she was on the Chinese group's side.
