Back to Racism, Ladies and Gentlemen, er., sorry to interupt, Laaaaaike.
Regarding the latest news about Jack Straw, Blackburn M.P., and his view that Muslim women should take off their veil when they attend his surgery and speak to him, has caused me to think about this subject - I went into a petrol station, in Adlington, this summer on my motorcycle and I was refused service because I wouldn't take my helmet off. The girl behind the counter said "it's our policy".
Now, there was only me on the forecourt at the time, but, if a Muslim woman had pulled in alongside me, and wearing a veil, would the girl have served her, regardless? If she did, would it have hit the headlines under the title 'Racist Incident at Adlington Petrol Station'? And, what are the chances of a couple of hundred Christians turning out to boycot the petrol station, in support of 'our religion'? Not much, I should imagine.
