My favourite sweet shop used to be on Mesnes Road, where Diana Louise hairdressers is now. My little brother and I used to be taken there on a Friday night for a treat to buy some sweets, usualy Fry's Chocolate Cream bar or a sherbert dip - can't remember the name of the shop but it was owned and run by a nice old man. Another favourite was Sharrocks in Queensway and the one opposite Mab's Cross School - if you weren't too greedy a Jubliee bought there after school could last all the way to Danesway on the walk home. Curly Wurly bars seemed to be absolutely ginormous - not now in the days of Americanised buckets of popcorn and supersized Mars bars etc. but in the early '70s they were HUGE!

Am I bucking the trend here - I really hated cherry lips, pear drops, parma violets and all sweets that depended on aldehydes for their flavourings - way too false - sorry to upset all you nostalgia junkies! Can't beat a good suck on Uncle Joes.
