i recall top-o-the hill where morrisons is now and the council tip, used to be spare land with a lot of bolders scattered about. the travellers would burn off there copper cables and strip there scrap cars ect ect.every now ond again, a grudge fight would be held. lots of money for side bets too. anyone recall a guy called ellis gardner???he was an x miner who lived up there. he had a scrap with a traveller for a 25 quid side bet. old ellis was no pussy, he whupped this kid in very quick time.he bought the drinks in a pub up there called the BELL something or other.i forget.
